Roger Shane Holmes, age 46, of Buford, GA, died suddenly on Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 20, 2010, at 6PM, at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Hannah Rebecca “Becky” Wilson, age 23, of Buford, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Ferris had lived in the Metro Atlanta area for the past 16 years. He was a dedicated and passionate member of Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church. As a child, Harrison became an Eagle Scout. On March 6, 1979, Harrison was raised as a Master Mason at Rising Star Lodge #4 in Eatonton, GA. In 1994, Harrison retired as a Commander from the United States Naval Reserve, Medical Service Corps, where he served six tours CO and XO positions in acute care, combat support planning, and medical logistics. He served eight years on active duty. He also received the National Defense Service Medal. After retirement, Harrison worked as a Hospital Administrator with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). In March of 1996, he was inducted into the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Atlanta, Orient of Georgia, where he achieved the level of 32 nd degree KCCH Scottish Rite. He was a cast member of “The Traitor”, a charter member of the W. Joe Clarke York Rite College #203, and a Standard Bearer for the Arnold de Troye Commandery #31. Harrison was also a life sponsor of the Knight’s Templar Eye Foundation, a member of the Grand College of Rites, and a member of Scottish Rite Research Society. He was inducted into the D.H. Keever Council #365 Allied Masonic Degree, and also inducted into the Royal Order of Scottland. He was a published Masonic author, a member of the Buford Masonic Lodge #292 F&AM, and a member of the Fulton Masonic Lodge #216 F&AM. William Ray "Billy" Lewis, Jr., age 27 of Hoschton, Georgia, died Thursday, June 24, 2010 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. James LeRoy Dumond, age 61, passed away March 26, 2010 at his home in Buford , Georgia after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born August 7, 1948 in Owosso , Michigan .  He is predeceased by his father, LeRoy W. Dumond and half brother Wayne A. Furlong.  He is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa (Teri) Hadad Dumond, daughters and son-in-laws, Stephanie and Gerry Lindsay,  Jaymie and Dane Boring; son Aaron J. Karin Rowe Larson “P-Mom” Rawlins, born April 10, 1925, was the daughter of Dr. Bertil T. and Inez Rowe Larson and the sister of Bertil F. Larson. Mrs. Rawlins spent her childhood in Pontiac, Michigan where she attended elementary and middle school. She was an active sportswoman, an equestrian champion, and once single-handedly landed a 122 pound sailfish. Mrs. Rawlins graduated high school from Ward Belmont in Nashville, Tennessee and was a proud alumna of the University of Michigan where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. After moving her family to Georgia, Mrs. Rawlins continued her education at Oglethorpe University and received teacher certification. She went on to spend thirty years educating the young people of Dekalb County, most notable at Peachcrest Elementary School. Mrs. Rawlins retired in 1990, and became an active volunteer at Gwinnett Medical Center and was able to spend time enjoying her favorite pastimes – knitting and needlework, reading and crossword puzzles. She leaves to honor her memory her children Kristin Rawlins, Kathryn Rawlins (Andy Zadoff), Edward “her favorite” (Mary) Rawlins, Ginny Parrish, Julie (Al) Cunningham, special daughter and devoted caregiver Janet (Tony) Lawrence, and her grandchildren Sean Cunningham, Jesse Parrish, Jansen Lawrence, Kelsi Cunningham and Keelan Lawrence, who will always love and miss their P-Mom. Gertrude Bertha Olson - July 9, 1914 -----February 1, 2010 Gertrude “Gertie” Olson survived by her loving family of three children, 8 grandchildren ,7 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Her surviving children and their children are her daughter , Roberta Hanson, her husband Lowell of Dacula, GA. And their 2 children, Jeffrey Hanson of Greensboro, GA., and Bari Freeman of Denver, NC. Her daughter, Marlene Rink, her husband Bob of Shoreview, MN, and their 4 children, Elizabeth McDunn of Bozeman, MT. Jennifer Millington of St Paul, MN, Ben Rink of Champlain, IL Andy Rink of Edina MN. Son Eugene Olson of Lawrenceville, GA. And his 2 children, Patricia Olson, of Denver, CO. and Martha Olson, of Atlanta, GA. Gertrude was originally from DeSmet, South Dakota where she grew up on the family farm. At an early age she left the farm, moved to Minneapolis, MN attended school and became a hairdresser. After being married and raising her three children, Gertrude went back to work as a director of the Personal Care unit of the Glen Lake Sanatorium where she cared for the elderly and their personal care needs. She also was in charge of teaching retarded children how to care for themselves for personal hygiene. She retired from the State of Minnesota after 20 years and spent her retirement playing golf, gardening, quilting, and splitting her time with her children and their families in Minnesota and Georgia. Gertrude and her late husband, Harold loved to travel, especially to Harlingen, TX, in the winter where they would oversee the care of the orange groves that they owned. Gertrude leaves behind a legacy of accomplishments to family, friends, acquaintances, and fellow church parishioners. She was very active in many volunteer ministries with her church and community where she gave of her time and talents helping others less fortunate. Gertrude was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Richfield, Minnesota and more recently a member of Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church in Dacula, Georgia. Gertrude is the last of a family of nine children and the last of all of her contemporaries. She has served this life well and will be welcomed by God and all those who have gone before her from this place to her new life everlasting home where her Christian belief will take her. She will be sorely missed and has definitely left her mark on this world and those who knew her. Ben Warren Roberts born Jan. 1, 1931 passed away in his sleep at his Buford home on November 16, 2009. Ben was born in Atlanta, GA. He graduated Boys High and went on to receive a degree in Mechanical Engineering from The North Avenue Trade School (GA Tech) where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. Ben also served proudly in the US Navy during the Korean War. Ben retired after 38 years of service in GA and KY with Lincoln Electric. He co-founded Fabricated Metal Products, Inc. in 1976 where he obtained a U.S. patent. He was active in church and loved family, gardening, golf, sailing and Boy Scouts. He considered himself a connoisseur of traditional southern foods. One of Ben’s strong points was his great sense of humor. J.D. Harris, Jr., beloved husband of Betty Robinette Harris, died May 12, 2009 at his Hoschton, GA home after a lengthy illness. Born December 22, 1948 in Cotton Valley, LA, he was a 1966 graduate of Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, LA. During the Vietnam era, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving at Osan Air Base, Korea and Tinker Air Force Base, OK. A 1982 LSU graduate who made his home in GA 19 years ago, J.D. was a proud Tigers football fan who braved a sea of UGA “red” to wear his much loved “purple and gold”; at the time of his death, he was a longtime field engineer for GE Medical Systems. In addition to Betty, his wife of 39 years, J.D. is survived by daughter, Susan Harris Boring (spouse, R. Russell Boring), Augusta, GA and son, John Michael Harris (spouse Kellie Harris) of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by his mother, Rosie Harris, and brother, David Harris, of Bossier City, LA. Although he enjoyed antique Ford Mustangs, kite-flying, woodworking, and fly-fishing, the avid amateur photographer most enjoyed being “Papa J” to his much loved granddaughters, Kaitlyn Grace Harris and Emily Rose Boring.
